There was a time when people would see me up and down Dauphin Street, shaking hands with friends and enjoying all that our wonderful downtown community has to offer. That time has long since gone, and now I am not to be found at all downtown. I haven't even been to my places of business, except once, since May of this year.
Nearly every evening, my wife returns from work to tell me that one or more people have been asking about me. My customers are wondering where I am, and if I even have a stake in Busaba's Thai Cuisine any more.
Believe me when I say, if it were up to me then I would still be downtown every day. I truly miss being downtown, getting involved in the devices of people and organizations that make our city what it is today. I miss sharing time with friends that have become more like members of my family to me. And I miss seeing the smiling faces of my customers and their guests.
In May of this year, I was medically diagnosed as having stage III colorectal cancer. Since the diagnosis, I have been at home fighting the greatest battle of my life ever, taking chemotherapy and leaving home only to receive radiation therapy and to undergo monsterous tests and examinations.
Thanks to the marvelous skills of Dr. John Russell, my radiation oncologist, and to my chemotherapy oncologist Dr. Paul Schwarzenberger, I have been quite successful in shrinking the size of the tumor to an operable state.
This Wednesday morning (August 15), I will undergo surgery at Mobile Infirmary. Dr. Lee Thompson, a mighty fine surgeon, will spend several hours cutting away at my body to remove the cancer, and trying to fit what remains of me back together again.
Following surgery, I will take a two-to-three week "vacation" to strengthen my body. If everything goes as planned, I will soon be back amongst the living in downtown Mobile, ejoying life and loving my friends more than I ever have before.
Today, I ask a selfish favor from all who read this, and from all who know me: Please, keep me in your mind and prayers as I undergo this battle for my life. |

I survived the operation! Doctors released me to return home this past Wednesday. According to Dr. Thompson and Dr. Russell, 100% of the cancer was removed!
I am one of the truly lucky ones. They were able to remove all of the cancer from my body. According to the doctors, the cancer had not infected my lymph nodes, nor had it metastasized to any other parts of my body.
They have instructed me to take six weeks for recovery. I don't know if I'll be able to sit at home for that length of time without going crazy, but I'll do my best. I'm really looking forward to returning to downtown Mobile.
Thanks to all that gave me their love and support through this terrifying ordeal. |

I have received cards, flowers, and phone calls from friends all over Mobile wishing me well and a fast recovery. I just want to say thanks to all who are standing by me and giving me their support in this time of my need.
Recovery has been a bit slower than anticipated, but I'm still hanging in there. I went downtown to the restaurant yesterday, but was only able to stay for about twenty minutes due to my weak constitution. It gave me a chance to see friendly faces and to shake hands with some of the people I have grown to love and admire downtown. I'll try going downtown again in a few more days. |

This is Mobile, Alabama
This is the area where slave trade was once at the boom as it is one of the earliest
sea ports. Some think that the hurricanes towards this area come as a curse of African moms
whom children were brought here as slave and the winds follow their soul. It may be a myth
but we do experience severe storms. God knows the best.
This is Mobile Alabama, where police will give you ticket while you are driving 25-30 MPH on
interstate due to some problem with your baggage (load) and have the hazard blinkers on so that
police may help you to be safe in that situation. The worse is that the court was like a joke
and judge was talking to an off-duty police officer like some one talks to a boyfriend in
presence of all the justice seekers in the court room. What I saw in that particular court
makes me feel sorry for the public of this area. Man on man, you waste time and money and feel
insulted because they treat every one in the room as criminal and have no respect of the
people.
This is Mobile, Alabama where you call the police again and again to tell them some important
for the theft and burglery and no one cares because they force you to tell them "YOUR RACE".
May be the follow up on your case is based on your race and not any thing else.
This is Still Mobile, AL the city of strange plans and run by old sneaky style prejudice.
If they don't like you, you will go nowhere but at your face they will smile and even hug you.
I call them snakes. You can not get a legitimate request to get your lot cleared because
you may have offended one idiot engineer in city office, who did not listened to you and
concluded based on his hallucination. But if you are the one who is a "good sucker" you may
even build an airport in your backyard, funded by public.
I know lots of other stories and I will tell you all.
